The ITU Triathlon World Championships host several championship events including the Aquathlon World Championship, Run 2.5km - Swim 1km - Run 2.5km.
Reene, Susan, Darlene, Mary Ann and Teresa, using this event as a warm-up race, were among the 220 female competitors in an event that, not unexpectedly, was dominated by Australia, New Zealand and Brazil, nations with a rich tradition in lifeguarding.
The Chico girls did well with Mary Ann placing 4th in the 60-64 age division in 54:38 minutes, Susan (65-69) placing 5th in 1:19:28 hr, Darlene (55-59) placing 12th in 58:24 min, Teresa (50-54) placing 13th in 46:08 min, and finally Reene (45-49) placing 23rd in 48:54 min.
