Day Three Australia......

It is Wednesday here today and I think we are finally getting acclimated.  Everyone is doing well getting everything ready.  Besides a few problems with equipment, Elizabeth's spider bite, lost luggage the team is feeling good and ready to race.  As a matter of fact a bunch are racing in the Aquathon at this very minute.  The Aquathon is two legs of a 2.5k run on either end of a 1500 meter swim.  The ladies participating in that are Darlene Henderson, Reene Fiack, Teresa Kludt, Mary Ann Bachus, Susan Clavey, and Margaret Bomberg.  I will let you know tomorrow how that went for them.

Rumor has it that Margaret has been busy today trying to get in on the sprint race on sunday as she found out that there is no one else in her age group.  Margaret never misses an opportunity to win!!

I went out for the first time today on my bike wanting to check out the race course a bit and do a swim.  I started out with Teresa and Mary Ann.  It was freaky at first because of the other side of the road thing but I soon got the hang of it.  It was really fun seeing the Gold Coast.  It is beautiful here. I see now why they wanted to have it here.  I love seeing the exotic birds and plants. Anyway I ended up leaving Mary Ann and Teresa because we were on a road that was under construction and we were riding directly in the traffic.  They wanted to stay on it so I veered off and ended up on the actual bike course which was very nice.  I met up with a group from Tazmania and rode with them as they were also checking out the course.  I gave on eof them my swim cap from Lake Berryessa this year...it is a cool one because it has Davis, California on it and says "Certified 100% Shark Free Swim".  They loved it.  It has been so fun meeting people from all over the world.  Everyone is very friendly, especially the Australians.  They are extremely welcoming.

So the word is that people are wanting some juicy stories and I am afraid we are a pretty simple group.  No one has gotten too wild yet but he week is young!  I did find out Reene's full given name but I probably should ask her if I can post it on the web!  The group is getting together tonight to watch the sunset form the 12 story condo so who knows!!  So far the wildest thing we have done is drink wine and eat heavy creams which are a specialty here.

While others are out honing their skills I am sitting here being your faithful correspondent and drinking Guiness..........it is rough but somebody has to do it.
