A nice sunny morning and all the women are in the water and on their way after having lined up on the beach side by side for the running start into the water. The race got under way on schedule and most of the women's field has already exited the water and are now out on the 40km bike leg.
For those of you following it live on the web it is great coverage and great seeing the endless stream of athletes filing into the tranisiton and then out on the bike. We saw Gaby and Elizabeth on the starting line -- they did not wave though -- or told mom that "we are number one"?
The coverage shifted to mostly the swim and the transition and it looks like Lisa Birkett from NZL has the fastest swim time with 20:53 minutes. Gabrielle was 13th and the 2nd American out of the water in the 50-54 age division in 26.45. Teresa followed in 32nd and the 7th American out in 28:25 and Elizabeth was 53rd and the 9th American in 31:37. Gabby lost 6 spots in the transition and exited in 19th. Teresa lost 1 spot while Elizabeth gained 3 spots. Their age division has 70 competitors.
In the 60-64 age divison, with 31 competitors, Jane Leslie from GBR was out in 26:28. Mary Ann followed in 12th as the 5th American in 31:23 and she exited the transition in the same position.
In the 65-69 age division, with 12 competitors, American Peggy McDowell-Cramer lead in 30:56. Susan followed in 10th in 40:05 and headed out on the bike leg in the same spot.
In the 70-74 age divison, with 5 competitors, American Susan Bradley-Cox was first out in 31:02 with Margaret exited the water in 4th in 56:56.
Now it is on to the 40km bike leg while we watch the finish line and the first physically challenged cross the line and some live pictures of the girls riding up a smaller hill out on the bike course.
